about

Stems Brooklyn was founded in 2013 by Suzanna Cameron in the front of a tiny, dimly lit speakeasy and has since grown into the bright and beautiful warehouse style studio & retail shop it is today.

We specialize in garden style design with vivid color and unique textural combinations that feel natural yet vibrant. Above all, our signature style showcases your personality and our care for our the planet; working thoughtfully to exclude floral foam (a toxic and carcinogenic material), all chemical dyes, sprays, & bleach, and composting as much organic floral waste as possible.

We also design seasonally and source locally as much as possible during the spring, summer and fall months, prioritizing small farms, local growers, and American grown flowers.

As a client you can expect surprising designs, timely responses, a relationship with a local Brooklynite, and a focus on ensuring your wedding runs as smoothly as possible.

As a team we are always doing our best to support each other’s needs and take so much pride in what we do by holding ourselves accountable for each and every interaction and design. We are so grateful you continue choosing us to serve all of your flower needs.

  • Sourcing Seasonally

We source seasonally which means our flowers are coming from right here in New York City, to Vermont, California and as far as Europe. During the warmer months we prioritize local farms which means flowers coming to us by vehicle without having ever taken a trip on an airplane. When importing from outside the US we prioritize fair trade certified farms.

Our local farms grow without the use of pesticides. We have personal relationships with all of our local farmers.

  • Practicing Sustainability

We never use chemically altered materials such as spray paint, harmful dyes or chemically laden bleached products. Composting is part of our everyday life to ensure our carbon footprint is offset as much as possible by diverting organic waste from landfills.

We use chicken wire or floral tape to ensure our flowers stay in their vases. Flower foam is a single use micro plastic that ends up in our oceans and can also be harmful to humans who use it in flower shops.

  • Focusing on Inclusivity

To us, building a business that is inclusive and gives back to our community is of the utmost importance. We support local artists by selling hand crafted retail goods in our shop with priority given to women owned, BIPOC owned and Bushwick artists that are part of our community. Equity matters.

We believe all love should be welcomed and celebrated, and support the LGBTQ+ community. We are dedicated to anti-racism practices within our business and our community.
